New contract awarded as Dotto train goes back into action for the season

Ilfracombe's Dotto land train is back in action for the summer after renewal of its contract.

Filers, which ran the service for the first two years, have been given a new three year contract by North Devon Council.

It runs from Hillsborough, through High Street, Church Street, Wilder Road, St James Place to The Pier and back to Hillsborough via The Cove.

Executive member for economic development, Councillor Pat Barker, said: "It's great to see the land train back on the road and I'm pleased that an established local firm has been awarded the contract. T

"he train is a great all-weather attraction that gives visitors to Ilfracombe a whistle stop tour of the town and is particularly popular with families. If you're planning a trip to Ilfracombe, look out for the stops around town and hop on board."

Train operator, Roy Filer, added: "I am delighted we have been awarded the contract again to provide this lovely service in Ilfracombe. It's great to see people enjoying the sights of Ilfracombe on board the train and waving to passers by as they go, and I am personally excited about how this great service develops over the season."

The land train, which is owned by North Devon Council, was the result of a £163,000 funding bid to the EU Leader 4 programme in 2014.
