North Devon Council has cut winter parking charges from £2 all day to £1.20.

Hillsborough will remain at 60p for two hours, with the daily charge reduced to £1.50.

It is hoped the move will encourage more people into Ilfracombe to shop and to stay in the town for longer.

Executive member for economic regeneration, Councillor Malcolm Prowse, said: “From Monday it will be cheaper to park in Ilfracombe over the winter months. We’re hoping this will help support local businesses in the town and have a positive effect on the local economy.”

The change is part of an annual review of the council’s Off-Street Parking Order, which comes into force on Monday.
