A day of family fun at Ilfracombe's Bicclescombe Park was a huge success, attracting more visitors than ever before.Around 1,000 people came out to enjoy the park's annual open day on Saturday, organised by North Devon Council's Parks and Amenities Team. That beats last year's figure when it was estimated 800 people turned up.The free day was packed with entertainment, including falconry displays, Barnstaple Concert Band, Morris dancing, children's face painting and arts and crafts. There were also tennis taster sessions for all ages and abilities, as well as model boat demonstrations and a hands-on visit from Exmoor Zoo. Parks and Amenities Officer Mike Jones said: "The purpose of the open day was to raise the profile of this beautiful park and to get more local people to come through the gates time and time again. And by going through the positive feedback we've received following this event, I think we'll achieve that. It really is a beautiful park and a hidden gem that we hope the community will enjoy for many years to come."Bicclescombe Park is North Devon's only Green Flag Award winning park, with visitors able to enjoy the boating pond, play area, gardens and tennis courts all year round. Due to the success of the weekend's event, the Parks and Amenities Team is now looking into the possibility of inviting perfomers and exhibitors back to the park later in the year.
