Now you can take a virtual 3D tour of Ilfracombe Lifeboat Station without ever leaving your armchair.
Barnstaple-based Panoptic Motion has created an immersive walk-through virtual tour of the station – and you can even ‘step’ onboard the lifeboats.
It can be viewed on mobile phones, computers, tablets and even virtual reality headsets.
The tour includes key points within the station, plus live links, videos, images and information.
The project was suggested by Panoptic’s Howard Thomson, who is the Ilfracombe RNLI deputy press officer.
He said: “The station wanted to increase awareness of coastal safety, along with highlighting the lifesaving work of their volunteer crews. This is where Panoptic came in.
“From standing on the inshore D-class lifeboat, to climbing down to the engine room of the Shannon lifeboat, you get a fantastic behind the scenes look at all the kit and tech used by the RNLI.
“The process involves a specialist camera that creates a full 3D model that gets overlaid with high resolution photography.
“When combined, it creates a photo realistic immersive experience.”
