Ilfracombe lifeboat races to aid of stricken yacht

Lifeboat rescue: Ilfracombe lifeboat rescued a yachtsman and his two children after their vessel became snagged by rope and netting in choppy seas four nautical miles from the town.

The thirty three foot motor sailor had been heading from Burnham to Ilfracombe on Tuesday afternoon when her propeller became fouled.

The Ilfracombe all weather RNLI lifeboat was launched at 4pm and on arriving, placed two crew members onboard the yacht to assist with rigging a towline.

They then proceeded to tow the vessel back to Ilfracombe, placing her safely on a mooring in the inner harbour.

The RNLI said the trio had been well prepared for the day, with lifejackets worn at all times and his swift action ensured an incident that could have happened to anyone led to a safe outcome.
