‘Best ever present’ say owners as Freya is found six miles away thanks to her microchip and the kindness of strangers

A missing kitten was reunited with her owners in time for Christmas.

Freya, aged six months, went missing in October but was found almost six miles away in Mortehoe.

She had been hanging around the village for a month, looking very skinny and very sad.

A kind-hearted man fed her but was unable to keep her and contacted Barnstaple Cats Protection.

But thanks to a microchip, the charity was able to locate her Ilfracombe owners.

Cats Protection fosterer Chris Mason said: "Mr and Mrs Newton were so over the moon to get her back after so long.

"They said it was the best ever Christmas present as they thought they would never see her again.

"The moral of the story is there are good people around - and microchips do work."
