Girls head to Wimbleball lake for action-packed two-day challenge

The third Ilfracombe Guide Unit joined more than 160 girls from all over the South West to tackle a spectacular two-day water sports challenge on Wimbleball Lake, Exmoor.

Six Guides and two leaders camped at Wimbleball before donning their wetsuits and helmets and taking to the water, where they experienced sailing, canoeing, kayaking, raft building and windsurfing.

Off the water, the girls tried climbing and archery, as well as 'geocaching' - treasure hunting with the help of GPS receivers.

Group member Molly, said: "It was excellent, the experience will be a great memory. I hope I can go again sometime."

Leader Flick Cowley said: "The girls had a fantastic time in superb weather. Ilfracombe Guides would not have had the opportunity to take part in these activities on Exmoor without the generous award from Exmoor National Parks Partnership Funding to help with the costs.

"It was a beautiful and safe location, a real adventure."

This was one of many exciting outdoor events staged by Girlguiding South West England, part of the leading charity for girls and young women in the UK.
