Shops and residents in Ilfracombe were hit by flash flooding this morning (Friday) after torrential rain.
Fore Street was a river and Broad Street was under one to two feet of water as the drains were overwhelmed by the sudden downpour.
Thankfully there was no lasting effect reported and Adele’s Café, pictured here, was open for business by 10am.
Town councillor Bert Gear praised Richard Robb and Rob Townsend, Ilfracombe Town Council maintenance officers, for acting quickly and arriving to deal with the deluge before it had even been reported to them.
Mr Gear said he understood quite a few properties suffered flooding and water was even rising in the lifeboat station.
He said: “A lot of the drains are blocked and because it was commercial rubbish day, wheelie bins were actually washing down Fore Street.
“Cardboard from the bins was coming out and blocking the drains.”
