UP to 45 job losses could occur at one of Ilfracombe's largest manufacturing companies in the next few weeks. With lower order levels, TDK Lambda announced it had begun consultation on Monday with works council staff and management to look at ways of reducing "capacity and head count."Managing director Adam Rawicz said if redundancies were considered the most appropriate action, a loss of approximately 45 employees would be necessary at the Ilfracombe site, which currently has around 300 staff."It is very much regretted this action is proving necessary, but it is important the company retains the strength to compete in the market place and to make the necessary investments to prosper into the future," said Mr Rawicz."In line with statutory requirements and to allow time for meaningful and considered consultation, the company will be seeking agreement that any compulsory redundancies would be effective from early April 2009."He added that applications for voluntary redundancies would be considered in order to minimise the impact.
