Ilfracombe bus station appeal is looming

Public appeal to decide fate of Ropery Road site will be held at the Ilfracombe Centre.

THE appeal to decide the future of a controversial scheme for the Ilfracombe Bus Station site will be heard in the town this March.

The public hearing will take place at the Ilfracombe Centre on Tuesday, March 13 from 10am and is expected to last around two days.

It follows North Devon Council’s rejection of a bid by Omnium Ilfracombe Ltd to demolish the old bus station and build 50 flats plus four commercial units at the site in Ropery Road near the harbour.

The company lodged its appeal with the Planning Inspectorate after it was refused permission because of its density and councillors felt its scale would be “oppressive” to the surrounding area. More than 1,000 people signed a petition opposing the scheme.
