Ilfracombe bus crash boy ‘making steady progress’

Youngster is out of intensive care, say police

A six-year-old boy who was critically injured after being trapped under a bus on Ilfracombe seafront is making steady progress in hospital.

Police said the youngster, currently at Bristol Royal Children’s Hospital, was out of intensive care and on a ward following the collision on Whitsun bank holiday Monday.

Fire fighters used cutting equipment to free the boy from underneath the double decker bus before he was airlifted by Devon Air Ambulance to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth and then transferred to Bristol.

The youngster is understood to have been visiting the area with his family when the collision occurred.
