North Devon councillors agreed to inject more than £146,000 into refurbishing the pool.

South Molton's swimming pool has been given a £146,000 funding boost.

North Devon Council agreed to release funds for a refurbishment on Monday at an executive meeting.

Improvements will include modernising the changing rooms as well as work to the reception, foyer and pool area.

South Molton Swimming Pool Trust have been allocated the Section 106 funds, which are provided by developers as part of large planning applications.

Ward member for South Molton, councillor John Moore, said: "The pool is a great facility, which is used not only by local people, but also by those in surrounding areas, including Braunton and Appledore.

"I'm delighted this money is to be released to further enhance the facility and improve the swimming experience for everyone who comes here, now and in the future."

Executive member for health and wellbeing, councillor Brian Moores said investment in the pool was 'very much needed'.

South Molton Swimming Pool Trust will also put more than £5,500 towards the project, which is likely to start during the autumn.
