NORTH Devon Hospice is once again organising the Great North Devon Knit-In to help raise funds for its specialist work with local people. Over the years groups of all descriptions have registered for this great event and knitted strips which would have stretched from Barnstaple to Bideford and back again!Knitters get sponsored to knit for two hours on or around February 25. It is an event for novice, new and experienced knitters of all ages. All the strips of knitting get sewn into blankets and used locally, so nothing is wasted. This event has been going now for more than ten years and according to Ali Hunt, Hospice Community Fundraising Manager, it is proving to be just as popular. "It really is great fun as groups get together to knit, chat and support our Hospice. Groups get together over tea, soup and sometimes a tipple of something stronger! The blankets look just as you would imagine Joseph's coat. You can not help but smile warmly when you see them!" To take part you will need a pair of number 8 needles (4mm) and one or two balls of 50 gram double knitting (or a whole sheep for the very ambitious!). To register and help the Hospice raise funds to support local people please call Ali Hunt on (01271) 347206. The Hospice cares for more than 80 local people every day, free of charge and can only raise funds in the North Devon area.
