Honour for Bideford Legion

BIDEFORD Royal British Legion has been honoured for its work.

The branch has been awarded the Tiverton Cup, given to the branch which increases its awareness and the work the Legion does in its locality.

This acknowledges the work of Bideford RBL last year in using its High Street premises to promote its welfare work and the Poppy Appeal with great success.

Secretary and joint poppy appeal organiser Brian Saunders said: “ We were all thrown in at the deep end as this was our first year organising the appeal, but the fantastic support of retailers and collectors and other organisations made this a record year, with over 16,000 being raised. The thanks go to everyone who contributed, not only financially, but with their time and efforts, to make this a success. So ‘thank you’ to the big team. “
