PLANS to modernise the Grenville College school campus and sports facilities in Bideford have been brought a step closer following the granting of planning permission for 199 new homes on an area of its surplus land. For more than two years the College has dreamed of dramatically improving its facilities, but needed to raise substantial funds to fulfil its ambition.A statement from the school this week said the council's decision at the end of last year moves it closer to securing the funding to renew and replace buildings as well as providing an all-weather pitch and indoor sports facilities that should benefit everyone. Headmaster Andy Waters said: "We have been in Bideford for over 50 years and are very aware of our commitment to the wider community, so we are particularly excited about the new sports facilities. We make a point of offering our facilities for community use and the all-weather pitch and sports centre will be no exception. They will be a tremendous resource for both our own pupils and the local community. The sale of our surplus land will help us to achieve this, as well as providing much-needed housing in Bideford.
