Barnstaple business shortlisted in top national awards competition

A North Devon mobile phone repair business has been shortlisted in a national awards competition, just one year after being taken over by its owners.

Barnstaple business shortlisted in top national awards competition

Chris Stirland and Arlo Braid-Pittordou of The iLab

The iLab, of High Street, Barnstaple, is a finalist in the ‘Best Repair Service’ category of the Mobile Industry Awards 2025, where it will be up against big names from the technology world such as TMT First, We Come to You Repair by Samsung, and Likewize.

The nomination follows hot on the heels of success in a local competition. In June, The iLab was named Best Employer at the prestigious Business Action Awards. This accolade recognised employers across North Devon who create safe, healthy, and fulfilling workplaces —places where every team member can thrive.

The iLab has been trading for 15 years. In April 2024 it was taken over Chris Stirland, who had worked there since its opening, and Arlo Braid-Pittordou, who had worked there for 12 years, following the retirement of founder Paul Selvey. It is an officially-accredited repair provider for Apple.

It is the third time The iLab has been nominated. Chris said: “The Mobile Industry Awards is the prestigious competition. It's the one that everyone wants to win. And normally there are five finalists, but this year they've narrowed it down to three, which has blown me away a little bit. So no matter what, we’re at least third best!

“To win this award would mean the world to Arlo and myself and even the team. We are so passionate about providing the best repair service, from the moment you walk into the store to the moment you pick up your repaired device.

“We believe we offer the best service out there. We care so much about the customer experience. This would be the recognition for the past 14 years of hard work. It would put North Devon on the map within the repair sector.

“And it would be the icing on the cake after taking over the business 15 months ago.”

The shop now has a staff of five, and offers a wide range of repairs and sales for mobile phones and tablets.

In order to reach the finalist stage of the Mobile Industry Awards, The iLab had to undergo a rigorous examination, and a detailed interview.

The Mobile Industry Awards 2025 are set to take place on 18 September at the prestigious Royal Lancaster Hotel in London. Find out more at https://www.mobileindustryawards.com/25/7608023
