Students in Barnstaple were left inspired after a modern languages competition involving 60 students from across the region.
Pilton Community College hosted the Modern Foreign Languages Speaking Competition on Wednesday, March 5.
60 students from 12 South West schools travelled to the college to take part in the competition. Participants included both non-native and near-native speakers, with presentations given in French, German, Spanish, Polish and Mandarin.
The panel of judges, who were all experienced linguists, were apparently amazed at how competent all participants were.
A special mention was given to Kira, who spoke in Mandarin in the Key Stage 4 non-native category and was a runner-up.
Pilton Community College’s Head of Languages said: “It is an inspirational day where future linguists grow in confidence, as well as being a real opportunity to celebrate a range of languages and cultures. Well done to everyone involved in the day.”
Participants as well as spectators had the opportunity to meet others with similar interests. The competition left those involved feeling inspired and motivated.
