Children’s hospice receives £12,500 from crematorium scheme

Children's Hospice South West is the latest charity to benefit from North Devon Crematorium's role in a national metal recycling scheme.

The hospice was presented with a cheque for £12,500 on Monday, 17 March. The donation has been generated from the proceeds of the recycling scheme run by the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management (ICMM), which enables metals from cremated remains to be safely recycled.

The money will go towards providing hospice care for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions and their whole family across the South West.

The care offered at the Little Bridge House children’s hospice in Fremington is wide ranging including hospice stays for the whole family, sibling support, emergency care, palliative care and end of life care.

The cheque was presented at the crematorium by North Devon Crematorium Joint Committee chairman, Councillor Simon Inch.

Councillor Inch said: "We are so pleased to be able to present this fantastic amount of money to Children's Hospice South West.

“The work the hospice does at Little Bridge House and across the region to support children and their families during incredibly difficult times is something we greatly appreciate across North Devon and Torridge. I'm sure the money will be very well spent.

Area Fundraiser for Children’s Hospice South West, Poppy Harrop, added: “Thank you so much to the ICMM for choosing to support CHSW. To receive a donation of £12,500 is incredible and will help us to continue to support babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions here in the South West.”

The metal recycling scheme is run by the ICCM and is only carried out with the consent of the bereaved.
