Pub near Woolacombe beach sold

A pub in the North Devon Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty has been sold to a new owner. 

The Fortescue Arms, located near Woolacombe beach, features a bar, restaurant, a separate family room, and a lawned garden.

The property also includes nine en-suite letting rooms and two apartments for owners’ accommodation.

Situated in a prominent roadside position on a busy route into Woolacombe, one of North Devon's most popular holiday and surfing destinations, the pub is well positioned to attract visitors from the numerous nearby holiday parks and campsites. 

Additionally, it lies close to the South West Coastal Path and the Tarka Trail, enhancing its appeal.

Christie & Co who oversaw the sale, has told the Gazette that the new owner, Richard Wheeler, is an experienced operator who currently owns the Royal Britannia Hotel in nearby Ilfracombe. 

Mr Wheeler plans to refurbish the pub and introduce a fresh food and drink offering, which is expected to include a Sunday carvery.

The new owner is an experienced hospitality operator with knowledge of the local market, and his plans to revitalise the pub and to create a brand-new food offering should bring a welcome return to much busier times at this venue.”

The sale price of the pub has not been disclosed.
