Lib Dem MPs - Steve Darling MP (Torbay), Caroline Voaden MP (South Devon), Martin Wrigley MP (Newton Abbot) and Ian Roome MP (North Devon)
NORTH Devon’s new MP, Ian Roome, and Louise Wainwright, Chair of Avon River Champions, are set to address the North Devon & Torridge Climate Forum on 7 September at Beechfield Community Centre, Fremington.
The forum will provide an opportunity for local residents to hear from these prominent figures on environmental issues and climate action.
Ian Roome, who has made addressing climate and environmental concerns a key part of his agenda, will speak about his commitment to tackling climate change and supporting the Climate and Nature Bill.
Ian has actively engaged in environmental advocacy, including a recent petition to Downing Street urging support for the Bill.
This initiative, which Ian championed alongside fellow Lib Dem MPs, aims to elevate the Bill's priority in parliamentary discussions and secure meaningful action on climate and nature.
At the forum, Ian will discuss the ongoing environmental challenges faced by North Devon and the broader impacts of climate policies.
His participation reflects a broader commitment to addressing issues such as water pollution and sustainable agriculture, which he has identified as critical to his constituents.
Joining Ian at the forum will be Louise Wainwright, who leads Avon River Champions, an NGO dedicated to protecting rivers and waterways from pollution.
Louise will present the Devon Rivers Manifesto, which outlines public actions to influence the Government and the Environment Agency in their management of river resources.
Her insights will complement Ian’s focus on water quality, making for a comprehensive discussion on local and national environmental priorities.
The North Devon & Torridge Climate Forum will be held from 10am to 12pm, with doors opening at 9.45am.
The event is free to attend, though donations are welcome.
Refreshments will be provided, and the venue is accessible by car and local buses (5B, 21, 21A).
