Churchill Living has commenced construction on their new development, Barum Lodge, in Barnstaple.

The project, approved by North Devon Council, will feature 75 private self-contained apartments designed exclusively for residents over 60 years old, offering scenic views of the town centre, waterfront, and surrounding countryside.

Named in homage to Barnstaple's historical moniker, Barum Lodge pays tribute to the town's rich heritage.

Originally referred to as Barum, derived from the Latin ad Barnastapolitum, the name resonates with locals, including supporters of the nearby Barnstaple RFC, known as The Mighty Barum.

According to Churchill Living, each apartment at Barum Lodge is designed to provide complete self-sufficiency, ensuring tranquillity and privacy for residents.

Amenities include a 24-hour call centre support system, complimentary parking, energy-efficient heating, and a secure camera entry system.

The development features an exclusive Owner’s Lounge with a coffee bar, providing views of landscaped gardens.

Additionally, there is a Guest Suite for hosting visitors.

Reflecting on the project, Caroline Haswell, Regional Marketing Manager for Churchill Living South West said: “We are excited to announce that construction is now underway for our new development in Barnstaple. Completion of the new development, Barum Lodge, is anticipated in Spring 2025 - however prospective buyers can begin to register their interest now and enquire about more information.”

Barnstaple’s rich historical landmarks, including St Anne’s Chapel, Barnstaple Castle, and The Georgian Guildhall, add to the appeal of living in this vibrant town.

Outdoor enthusiasts will appreciate proximity to Woolacombe and Croyde beaches, the River Taw, the South West Coastal Path, and the 180-mile Tarka Trail.
