The official construction of 105 new homes at the Barum Knoll development in Barnstaple kicked off on June 12.
Located in the suburb of Pilton, this new community is just a five-minute walk from the town centre and right next to North Devon District Hospital.
The project is spearheaded by developer Barratt David Wilson Homes who have said the new homes are “much needed.”
Andrew Spicer, Managing Director of Barratt David Wilson Homes Exeter said: “We are thrilled to break ground at Barum Knoll. This development is a significant step forward for Barnstaple, offering much-needed high quality and affordable housing and a commitment to environmental sustainability. Barum Knoll is not just about building homes; it’s about creating a community that lives in harmony with nature.”
The development will feature the planting of 54 new trees, over 2,000 native species-rich hedgerows, and 3,000 ornamental shrubs and grasses.
Integrated bat and bird boxes will be placed throughout the development, enhancing the local wildlife habitat.
Additionally, a dedicated children’s play area will ensure a family-friendly environment, making Barum Knoll a welcoming space for residents of all ages.
Construction is now underway, with the first homes expected to be available in 2025.
