Last night, parts of Devon were blanketed in an unexpected layer of snow, catching many residents off guard.
While some expressed annoyance, others embraced the surprise wintry weather with joy.
Social media platforms like Facebook buzzed with comments ranging from frustration to excitement.
One user vented, "Wasn't forecast last night, they have no idea," while another exclaimed, "It was very annoyingly filling my social media feeds."
Conversely, some were delighted in the unexpected snow, with one person expressing, "Was wonderful, woke up in the night to the magic of snow," and another adding, "It made me very happy smiley!"
Despite the divided reactions, the Met Office shed light on the phenomenon.
They explained that while there was a reference to the chance of snow over higher ground in the west of England and Wales, heavier than expected precipitation in parts of the southwest allowed temperatures to drop, resulting in snowfall even in lower levels. However, this snowy episode has now been replaced by rain, with the focus shifting to strong winds, prompting a Yellow warning in southern England through Thursday.
"It isn’t unusual to see snow in the UK in March," the Met Office stated.
"Indeed, in some places, you’re more likely to see snow falling at Easter than you are at Christmas. Spring is a transition season, so it is common to see quick changes in our weather from one type to another."
