Charities and community organisations in Ilfracombe are set to benefit from a groundbreaking partnership between FareShare and Tesco, offering access to free surplus food to support vulnerable individuals and families in the local area.

FareShare, renowned as the UK's largest food redistribution charity, is extending its reach to Ilfracombe, urging local charities and community groups to join the thousands already benefiting from surplus food sourced from local supermarkets.

FareShare has an extensive network of over 8,500 charities and community groups, and aims to tackle food waste while supporting social good.

Last year alone, FareShare redistributed the equivalent of nearly 128 million meals, making a significant impact on food insecurity while also preventing 95,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions.

Through the FareShare Go program, communities are connected to Tesco stores in their vicinity, ensuring that quality surplus food is redirected to those in need rather than being wasted, thereby curbing greenhouse gas emissions.

Tesco currently redistributes two million meals’ worth of food each month and organisations in Ilfracombe are being urged to register for the programme.

Charities and organisations in Ilfracombe are now encouraged to register for the program to access this valuable resource.

Tony McElroy, Head of Campaigns at Tesco, said: "The aim of our partnership with FareShare is to make sure no food goes to waste in our stores and to help make a difference to the lives of people in communities we serve across the UK."

Katie Sadler, Head of FareShare Go, said: “Through our FareShare Go scheme, we work closely with Tesco to ensure that food ends up on people’s plates rather than going to waste.

Organisations interested in benefiting from the scheme can register their interest on the FareShare website: https://fareshare.org.uk/getting-food/
