Temporary road closures will be introduced in Barnstaple in April, marking a significant step forward in the ongoing infrastructure enhancements around Cedars Roundabout.

The closures, set to commence from April 29 to May 3, will affect Bickington Road between 6.30pm and 6.30am.

These closures are part of a broader initiative by Devon County Council aimed at optimising traffic flow and ensuring safer road conditions for residents and commuters alike.

The closures are essential to facilitate the installation of new traffic signal loops and ducts, critical components aimed at improving the efficiency and safety of the road network. Despite the inconvenience posed by the closures, local authorities have emphasised the necessity of the measures, attributing them to the width limitations of the carriageway.

Residents living in the area, particularly those on Ellerslie Road, will still have access to their homes during this period.

However, alternative routes will be in place to ensure minimal disruption to daily routines. Access to Cedars Roundabout from other directions, including the Cedars Inn, will be maintained, ensuring that essential services remain accessible.

Moreover, the council has outlined a comprehensive plan to keep residents informed and minimise confusion during the closure period.

A signed diversion route via the B3233 and A39 will be established, offering motorists clear guidance on alternative pathways.

Additionally, trailer-mounted variable message signs (VMS) will be located near the site to provide real-time updates on any changes or developments.

The council has said they will assure residents that the closures are subject to weather conditions.

They have also said should there be any adjustments to the schedule, updates will be promptly communicated through the VMS signs placed at key locations.

The council has said the public can anticipate more closures throughout May and June.

In the meantime, daytime work will continue on Cedars Roundabout, with temporary traffic lights in operation to facilitate ongoing improvements.
