Celebrations held for Dignity Action Day at Fremington Manor Care Home

Residents and staff at Fremington Manor in Barnstaple have come together to mark Dignity Action Day, a national campaign aimed at promoting dignity for care home residents.

Situated on Manor Close in Fremington, the care home organised a series of activities to commemorate the day, fostering a sense of respect and compassion within the community.

Both residents and staff wore red attire in solidarity with the Dignity in Care campaign.

The day commenced with a coffee morning, followed by pamper sessions designed to uplift spirits. 

A highlight of the festivities was the Dignity Lunch, where residents were able to enjoy a selection of ice creams with an array of sauces and sprinkles. 

Residents were also invited to share their perspectives on dignity, with each sentiment transcribed onto paper leaves adorning a decorative Dignity Tree.

Yvonne, a resident at Fremington Manor, expressed gratitude for the compassionate care provided by the staff, noting, "The staff at Fremington Manor are kind and caring, and they always have a smile on their faces. I feel like I am treated with dignity and respect at the home."

Demonstrating their commitment to promoting resident dignity, the Fremington Manor team have enthusiastically embraced the Dignity Champion initiative. 

With this, they have pledged to uphold the 10 'Dignity Do's’.

These include agreeing to support others with the same respect as they would give to their family, treating each person as an individual, enabling people to make their own choices, and helping people to maintain their own confidence and positive self-esteem.

Nelson Lima, Home Manager at Fremington Manor, said, "Our team really got behind Dignity Action Day as it’s a campaign that has a huge amount of synergy with the values we hold at the care home for the benefit of the residents in our care."
