Torridge District Council has announced the appointment of Chris Keeble as the new Chief Operating Officer of Active Torridge, the district's leisure arm.

Chris has over 25 years of experience in the leisure industry, and also will bring a great deal of knowledge and expertise to his new role.

Having previously managed large facilities across Devon and Cambridgeshire, Chris has been serving as the Centre Manager for Torridge Leisure Centre since 2022.

During his career, he has been instrumental in driving forward the shared vision for leisure provision in the district.

Chris will officially assume the role of Chief Operating Officer from March 1.

In partnership with the council, he will lead efforts to enhance leisure services and facilities across the district.

The announcement formed part of the council’s budget setting process and has seen Torridge Leisure Centre in Northam and Torrington and Holsworthy swimming pools benefit from the £100,000 aimed at future proofing the facilities for Torridge residents.

In support of the council’s investment, Active Torridge has also submitted a £1.7 million bid to Sports England for energy efficiency measures at all three leisure centres.

Expressing his dedication to serving the community, Chris Keeble stated, "I am committed to delivering the best leisure services we can for the local communities we serve. As Chief Operating Officer, I'm looking forward to shaping the future of leisure provision in the district and ensuring we innovate and implement best practices."

Councillor Ken James, Chair of the Active Torridge Board, welcomed Chris to his new role and said, "I am delighted to welcome Chris to his new role. I believe that his enthusiasm, combined with his extensive experience in the industry, will help us achieve our goals for leisure across the district.”

Established in 2021 by Torridge Councillors, Active Torridge was created to oversee the management and expansion of leisure services in the district, taking over from its previous contractor, 1610.
