Devon Rape Crisis & Sexual Abuse Services is teaming up with justice agencies in the county to spread the word about the new Victims’ Code.
This code spells out the rights and help available to all crime victims, including those of sexual violence.
The Victims’ Code lists 12 rights that all survivors can expect, no matter the type of crime they've experienced.
These rights cover things such as getting language help, understanding the reporting and investigation process, and getting support for compensation and giving evidence.
Dr Davina Cull, CEO of Devon Rape Crisis & Sexual Abuse Services, said, “We want survivors in Devon to know that this Code is here to support them if they've been through rape, assault, or any unwanted sexual behaviour."
She added, “Many survivors don’t know what help they can get, which can make them unsure about the justice system. By working with police, courts, and victim services, we can make sure every victim knows their rights and feels empowered."
To spread the word, Devon Rape Crisis & Sexual Abuse Services will share info on social media using #VictimsCode.
They urge any crime victim to visit victimscode.org.uk to learn about their rights and find support services, including reaching out to Devon Rape Crisis & Sexual Abuse Services.
“This Code is for survivors – they have the right to know it so they can get the help they need after a crime,” Dr Cull said. “We encourage all survivors and their supporters to use this important resource."
