The proposed new café at Woolacombe beach
A beachside café in Woolacombe has celebrated the securing of planning permission for an exciting new project.
The new café, set to replace the current Beachcomber Café at the end of Woolacombe's beach, has marked a major investment in support of the local tourist industry.
Parkin Estates, who own the beach and the café, is looking to redevelop the old café as it nears the end of its life with a new café that will offer more to beach users.
Led by Peregrine Mears Architects, the new beach café project has aimed to revitalise the traditional seaside café while preserving its coastal charm.
With planning permission secured, Peregrine Mears Architects and Parkin Estates are eager to begin work on the project, which is planned to take place in several phases over the next few winters.

The design concept promises a blend of modern, sustainable architecture with the serene ambiance of the coastal surroundings. The café will offer a welcoming space for visitors to unwind and enjoy panoramic views down the coast to Baggy Point.
The partnership between Peregrine Mears Architects and Parkin Estates is central to the success of the project. Together, they have crafted a vision that meets the needs of the local community and the thousands of tourists who visit Woolacombe each year.
The new café will serve as a focal point of Woolacombe's culinary, retail, and social scene. It will feature indoor dining spaces and outdoor seating areas designed to capture the essence of coastal living. Sustainable principles, including eco-friendly materials and energy-efficient systems, will be incorporated to minimise the environmental footprint of the building.
The proposed development will replace two existing buildings with a single, cohesive structure that includes food and beverage offerings, retail opportunities, and flexible spaces on the first floor.
Step-free access from the car park level to the ground floor will be provided, along with improved accessibility to and around the building for all visitors.
