Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park has revealed the passing of Lenny, their African lion.

A statement issued out by the wildlife park on Facebook explained Lenny's declining health over the past few months, despite diligent care and medication, prompted the difficult decision to euthanise him, ensuring he wouldn't suffer any pain or discomfort.

Lenny, a prominent figure at the park for over 15 years, was renowned for his charisma and majestic presence.

Alongside his late brother Leo, who passed away in January 2023, Lenny captivated the hearts of countless visitors.

Despite his initial wariness of people, fortunate guests who participated in the lion feed experience with him cherished the opportunity.

The wildlife park said: “He was a very handsome lion, who had a magnificent mane that ran right down to his belly.

“It is very strange not having him in the park or hearing him roar.”

Described as a larger-than-life character, Lenny revelled in simple pleasures such as indulging in his favourite meals, basking in the sun, and delighting in rolling around in fragrant scents, particularly expensive perfumes.

As the park mourns the loss of Lenny, they have encouraged individuals to share any photographs they may have of him, as they would love to see and celebrate the life of their remarkable lion.
