Fearless fundraisers have taken part in Barnstaple’s hottest and sharpest sponsored walk to raise money for their local hospital.

Around 30 people took part in the Over and Above Fire and Glass Walk at Tesco Extra, raising more than £5,000 for the hospital charity.

The fundraising event was hosted by two-time firewalk Guinness World Record breaker Scott Bell of UK Firewalk.

Scott, who is internationally known as one of the world’s leading experts on firewalking, was on hand to help participants walk barefoot along a path of hot coals at temperatures of 500 degrees C, after a short stroll over shards of broken glass.

Over and Above community fundraiser Kate Constable said: “It was a fantastic evening of red-hot fundraising fun and we can’t thank everyone enough for their support.

“It was wonderful to see so many people take on this daring challenge and push their boundaries in support of their local hospital.

“Every penny raised will help our NHS in North Devon do even more for local patients and their families.

“We’ve had lots of people ask us if we’re planning another event for next year and we’re already talking to Scott and the UK Firewalk team about something very special for 2024, so watch this space!”
