The amazing progress of Liam Davis
Liam Davis from Barum Boxing Club has taken his fledgling career in the ring to a new level after travelling to Colchester to compete in the National Accosiation of Girls and Boys Clubs (NAGBC) semi Final.
Liam has boxed superbly throughout these championships, competing at every stage thus far. He dominated in the Western Counties Final, showing the full range of his skill-set to perform at a level above his counterpart to become Western Counties champion.
He then travelled to Wales in the quarter-finals and put on a sublime display to dismantle the current Welsh champion and secure his place in the last four in Britain.
After the long trip to Colchester for the semi-final of the Championships, Liam faced off against Islington ABC’s Dorian Scamardella. The bout showcased exceptional skill from both 15-year-old boxers.
The early exchanges saw Liam and Dorian vying for control of the centre space, with Liam weathering a flash knockdown from Dorian's powerful left hand. Undeterred, Liam intelligently countered, making Dorian miss subsequent attacks and targeted Dorian’s body.
The second round unfolded as a high-level chess match, with both boxers making each other miss and strategically picking shots. Liam, once again, asserted control of the centre, but the round remained closely contested.
Entering the third round, Liam, guided by the corner's advice, sought a decisive victory. Displaying resilience and strategic prowess, he landed a superb right hook, cornering his opponent and unleashing a flurry of shots.
Despite his opponent's defence, the bout concluded with Liam narrowly losing on points. This marked Liam's first experience taking a count, revealing his mettle as he nearly secured victory.
Barum Boxing Club expresses immense pride in Liam's achievements, acknowledging his continuous growth. Gratitude is extended to Nick McGarry (Royal Navy) for invaluable corner support.
As Liam dusts himself off, Barum Boxing Club remains confident in his future success, foreseeing him as a future champion. Best wishes extended to Dorian Scamardella in the upcoming final.
It is a true mark of the strength in North Devon boxing that we have local clubs producing such exciting talent.
