People in Bideford and beyond are being invited once again to go along to a free Community Christmas Lunch following a hugely successful event last year.

The Christmas Day lunch is being held at Bideford Rugby Club from 12noon to 3pm and will offer a full traditional turkey or chicken lunch plus vegetarian and vegan options.

All are welcome but guests are being asked to book their places as soon as possible to ensure numbers can be catered for.

The three course meal will also include entertainment, with a performance from the Carry on Choir, games and a quiz.

Organisers would also like to hear from anyone willing to volunteer on the day or in the run up to it.

Lucy Lowe, who is organising the lunch along with Rose Young-French, said: “Last year’s Community Christmas Lunch was a fantastic event. There was a brilliant turn out with a mixture of ages enjoying a beautifully cooked meal and getting into the festive spirit.

“The event shows what can be achieved when the community comes together and the successful take up of places for the lunch shows how needed this event really is in our community.”

Rose added: “Many thanks to all our amazing volunteers who give up their time and generosity of spirit for a few hours to make this day extra special for our guests.

“I am always humbled and over whelmed by the sheer numbers of enquiries to support the day and on the day the wonderful team work.

“The occasion provides heart-warming joy not just for guests but for our volunteers who also make new friends, share a delicious meal and feel a strong sense of reward.”

The Bideford Asda store is supporting the lunch with a £400 donation, plus support has also come from, among others, the Bideford Bridge Rotary and local councillors.
