Bideford Chiefs won their second match of the season, turning on the style to secure a 27-14 against a strong Penryn side.
The hosts went in front on 15 mins through Alex Hillman and a penalty for Matt Lewis two minutes later extended the lead to 8-0. Just before the half-hour, flying winger Alex Macmillian crossed the line with Matt Lewis kicking the conversion.
The visitors hit back on 35 minutes with a try and conversion for a half-time score of 15-7. Early in the second half, Penryn scored again to make it a one-point game.
Bideford rallied again in the brutally hot conditions and raced to victory with further tries from Dean Folland and a second for Macmillian.
“The players have worked very hard,” said Bideford manager Bradley Goaman. “We created a few good opportunities for our backs but we need to cut out the penalties conceded.
“Matt Lewis was man of the match with Fraser Priest, playing his first game back at Bideford, also catching the eye.”
South Molton have made an encouraging start in Counties Two Devon - they followed up an opening day win at OPMs with another, 40-29 home win over Plymouth Argaum. Torrington lost 19-30 to Exeter Athletic.
Barnstaple stared defeat in the face at home to always-strong Brixham and pulled it round - they trailed 13-20 to the Fishermen early in the second half, but stormed back to win 33-20. Barnstaple Athletic lost 21-17 at Ivybridge Vandals and the Colts were beaten by Newton Abbot.
Elsewhere in the region, games against the two favourites for promotion, Chew Valley and Devonport Services, always shaped up as a tough start to Okehampton's Tribute South West Regional Division One season, and so it's proved.
An 80-6 rout at Chew Valley was a chastening opener, but even though they also lost 35-19 to Services at The Showground at the weekend, the performance should have cheered up Okes supporters.
