GB triathlete Stephanie Hulford cut the red ribbon at Holsworthy Leisure Centre following refurbishment of equipment.

A Great Britain triathlete officially opened the brand new state-of-the-art gym in Holsworthy yesterday (Tuesday).

Stephanie Hulford cut the red ribbon following a £100,000 refurbishment of the fitness room.

The work took five weeks to complete and has been jointly funded by Torridge District Council and 1610, the leisure provider which manages the site.

Councillor Richard Wiseman, TDC lead member for leisure, said: "I am really pleased that the Council has been able to continue its investment into sports facilities at Holsworthy Pool, this time in the shape of a newly equipped gym. I am sure this will benefit the community and provide a state of the art facility for keen athletes and anyone wanting to pursue a healthier lifestyle."

The manager of Holsworthy Leisure Centre, Richard Bean, said the upgrade will mean that the local community will now be able to enjoy superb leisure facilities right on their doorstep.

He said "This is a really exciting development for the town and our community will have access to some of the best state of the art gym equipment available in the leisure industry."

The new-look gym now has touch screen displays, integrated TVs, internet access and a full range of resistance machines.

Last summer Torridge District Council invested £175,000 to replace obsolete plant and equipment to improve heating and ventilation at the pool, as well as the installation of a new pool cover.
