A man suffered life-changing injuries after he slipped in the rain and a vehicle drove over his ankle in Bideford.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident which happened in Allhalland Street, Bideford, at around 9.25am on Saturday.

The man, in his 30s, was walking down Bridge Street and turned into Allhalland Street when he slipped in the rain due to poor footwear, said police.

While he was still lying on the pavement a black 4x4-type vehicle with silver-coloured wheels turned into the car park from Allhalland Street after driving down Bridge Street.

As the vehicle turned, it drove over the casualty's right ankle with the rear nearside wheel.

The vehicle did not stop and was not located on police arrival.

Police said the victim, a man in his 30s, suffered serious injuries which are believed to be life-changing.
