A potentially lethal batch of high strength heroin is in circulation in the area, police have warned following a second Ilfracombe death in a week.A 49-year-old man died on Saturday; his death followed that of a 20-year-old man the weekend before, both thought to have been drug related.Police and the ambulance service went to an Ilfracombe address on Saturday at around 5.40pm after receiving a call that a man had suffered a drugs overdose.Officers said both this incident and the previous death were being investigated as possibly being drug related, although results of a post mortem examination are not available yet for either case.A 38-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of supplying controlled drugs. He has since been released on police bail to return to Barnstaple Police Station on April 29.Anyone who has any information is asked to contact police on 08452 777444, quoting log 882 150308.The Gazette last week incorrectly reported the age of the first victim as 29 and not 20 as it should have been.
