A VERY special Valentine's Girl will be in Barnstaple Pannier Market this Friday.Joan Walton, 75, will be displaying hearts galore in a labour of love. For the past 23 years Joan has run a charity stall in the market, dressing up in a variety of guises to raise funds for 14 different charities. On Friday she will, once again, be at her stall from 6.30am, this time dressed in red hearts and lace. Her Valentine's efforts will be in aid of the British Heart Foundation, which is especially close to her heart.Joan's first husband Reginald died 41 years ago after heart problems and four operations. Bypass surgery was in its infancy in those days, she said.Despite her own hard life - she brought up seven daughters and a son on her own and now nurses her second husband Frank, who has dementia - Joan always has time and a kind word for those she meets, especially those who are going through difficult times. At her stall she will be selling special Valentine hearts and cards for the British Heart Foundation's Heart Month campaign.Other charities Joan has helped over the years include Devon Air Ambulance, North Devon Hospice, Children's Hospice South West, Oxfam, CLIC Sargent, Cancer Research, the Cat's Protection League and North Devon Animal Ambulance.
