The motorcyclist killed in a crash near Hatherleigh on Sunday has been named as a 57-year-old man from Exeter.

Police said Nigel Charnock was fatally injured following a three vehicle collision at 11.32am on the A386 between Folly Gate and Hatherleigh.

He and his female pillion passenger fell from the Triumph Rocket they were riding.

Mr Charnock was killed and his passenger, a 60-year-old woman, was airlifted to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth with serious injuries and she is still in hospital.

Police said a further two motorcycles, a Yamaha and Harley Davidson, which were travelling behind, have subsequently become involved in the collision.

The female pillion of the Yamaha sustained serious injuries and was also treated at hospital.

Closures were put in place at the scene while investigations were carried out. The road was closed for six hours.
