BIDEFORD teenager Matt Gigg has raised £500 for Cancer Research UK by having his head shaved, despite the freezing weather.Matt initially thought of the idea after his mum Ally was diagnosed with cancer last year and he decided to raise money to help fund research into the disease.Friends and family gathered to witness Matt's transformation and to give him support as his locks fell to the floor.Matt said " It came as a shock when mum was diagnosed with cancer and I felt as though I needed to do something to help raise funds for research into this terrible disease. I could not think of a better charity than Cancer Research UK, so decided that I would shave my head"Money raised will help fund important research, including clinical trials taking place at the North Devon District Hospital, which are looking to find new treatments for lung cancer.
