A guide dog provided by the people of North Devon is now qualified and settled into his new home.
Golden Labrador Jaypee was trained thanks to more than £10,000 raised in the memory of well-known surgeon John ‘JP’ Partridge from Bishops Tawton, who passed away in March 2013.
His family launched the Jaypee Tribute Fund to train a puppy for the Guide Dogs charity and now he is proving his worth with new owner David Monckton in North Wales.
David is a visually impaired artist and attends Glyndwr University in Wrexham.

He bonded with Jaypee quickly and said he would describe his character as ‘calm, gentle and majestic’.
“After my first guide dog Jazz retired, I felt lost and vulnerable going out, I was like this for three months,” he said.

“Since having Jaypee, he has given me my confidence back and my life. I don’t feel alone again.”
David said Jaypee was very sociable and helped him to meet new people on a daily basis.
John Partridge worked at the North Devon Infirmary and then North Devon District Hospital for more than 20 years, until his retirement in 1984. He was an avid dog lover and could often be seen walking his yellow Labradors at Codden Hill.
His son Philip praised all who had supported the appeal: “A very big thank-you to the Gazette for all its support, everyone in North Devon who generously contributed and to Helen and Trevor Wells for all their hard work in his puppy-walking.”
