A LOCAL charity is hoping that guests at this year's annual Mayor's Charity Ball in Barnstaple will be shaken and stirred into donating lots of money to a good cause.The Mayor and Mayoress of Barnstaple, Cllr Jeremy Phillips and Cllr Val Elkins will host a James Bond-style ball in aid of the Barnstaple Stroke Support Group, on February 6.Party-goers will have the opportunity to try their luck at the casino tables at the "Casino Mayorale" with a top prize of a mini cruise from Portsmouth to St Malo, France, up for grabs.They will also have the chance to bid in a silent auction on the night, with lots including a handmade silver necklace donated by Boutport Street jeweler Catherine Bishop, and an original painting by renowned local artist Ivan Pollard.Musical entertainment throughout the evening will feature the ambient sounds of popular Dejˆ Blue Jazz, followed by Stay Lucky. All proceeds from the event, being held at the Barnstaple Hotel from 7.30pm, will go to the Mayor's charity.Tickets are £28.00 per person and include a specially prepared three-course meal.
