Barnstaple shopping centre sees a jump in footfall compared to same time last year.

Barnstaple’s Green Lanes shopping centre saw a seven per cent jump in footfall this September.

That’s compared to the same month in 2014, with a three per cent increase overall across July, August and September.

The boost coincides with the opening of a new TK Maxx shop in August.

Centre manager Jan Dayman said: “There might well have been a bit of a knock-on effect from that.

“It might also be down to the nice weather. The car park has been doing well and our footfall has been up, so I’m happy with that.

“I hope that the trend will continue into the Christmas season now. There’s a lot of internet shopping these days which is a challenge, but I think Barnstaple has a lot to offer.”
