BIDEFORD teenager Stacey Newcombe has taken up the baton to form a new majorettes troupe after becoming the first person in Devon to be granted an UnLtd Sport Relief Award.Stacey, 18, was awarded £2,500 to set up her own community sports project. A majorette since the age of five, she successfully bid for the award to set up a new troupe for girls aged three to 20.Her Phoenix Allstars Majorettes are now 32 strong and train twice a week at Bideford College.Uniforms are being made and it is hoped they will take part in their first competitions later this year.Stacey hopes: "The team will bring together people from different backgrounds and cultures in the interest of team spirit and this will help to keep young people away from drugs, alcohol and vandalism," she said.More girls are welcome and if interested can go and see them at Bideford College.
