THE work of Families In Grief (FiG) has been outlined to the Devon Community Foundation which supported the charity last year with a grant of £5,748.FiG is a bereavement support charity for children, young people and their families in North Devon and Torridge. Devon Community Foundation works to support voluntary and grassroots community groups across the county.Catherine Langford of Families in Grief attended a showcase event hosted by the Foundation in Exeter.Along with representatives from other charities, she spoke to the audience about the work of FiG and how since its beginning as a pilot project it had grown and helped many families - and especially children - through the loss of loved ones. The charity is run by volunteers and provides groups for the bereaved to attend over a six-week period, offering a chance to meet and talk to others who are in the same circumstances. There are different groups for young children, older children and adults. The sessions are free but generally not for the very recently bereaved.FiG will now be looking for other sources to help provide funding for their work.A new course has just started at Victoria House Children's Centre in Barnstaple, but they are held regularly and anyone who would like to learn more, or refer a family, is invited to contact FiG on (01237) 472697 or email familiesingrief@btconnect.com
