TWO innovative marine projects in North Devon have been held up as examples of the way forward by an influential European Commissioner.During a trip to Exmouth, Joe Borg, EC Commissioner for Fisheries and Maritime Affairs, heard about the successful no-take zone piloted off Lundy plus proposals for the Atlantic Array of more than 300 wind turbines off the island. The commissioner heard how the new Finding Sanctuary scheme proposed a network of no take zones throughout the South West to protect and encourage marine life while taking into account tourism, fishing and shipping industries. He also listened to reports on other marine projects including the suggested Wave Hub off the North Cornwall.
