WHAT is hoped will be crowned as the world's biggest jam and cream scone has been created at a Torrington bakery. The three feet diameter, 110lbs monster is the work of Nick Lovering of Sandfords Bakery and was topped with 40lbs of cream, supplied by Wiseman Dairies. The creation is one of the ingredients of a campaign by former Mayor of Torrington Anne Tattersall to attract more visitors to Devon. She is one of three finalists in the Love My Devon competition organised by Visit Devon. It calls on entrants to hit the road and use their love of the county to tempt holidaymakers into seeing for themselves what makes Devon special. The giant scone is part of Anne's publicity campaign and pictures of it are winging their way to the media nationwide.Already three leading national magazines have said they will feature the story, says Anne. There has also been an added bonus for Sandfords Bakery customers, who have been able to enjoy a slice.
