THE Forestry Commission in North and West Devon has issued a special New Year invitation - come and get fit in our woodlands! The Commission has around 200 woodlands across Devon, Cornwall and Somerset. There is no charge for entry in to any of them, although there are a couple which charge a small amount for parking - around £1.50 for the whole day. Woodlands in West Devon include Cookworthy Forest and Abbeyford Woods, both near Okehampton. In North Devon, there is Wistlandpound, near Barnstaple at Blackmoor Gat, where there is an all-ability trail and an activity trail. Glyn Bradbury, recreation ranger for West and North Devon at the Forestry Commission said: "In this part of Devon we are lucky to have some really beautiful forests. We are passionate about getting as many people as possible out and about, enjoying these woodlands. There is a range of walking, cycling and horse riding trails available to visitors and many of our woodlands also have picnic areas and other facilities such as orienteering trails. "Spending time in the forest is incredibly cheap and an excellent way to get fit. At a time when there are worries about expanding waist lines and a shrinking economy there really has never been a better time to get out and about in your local forest."For more information, visit http://www.forestry.gov.uk/southwestengland.
