GET up close to a host of emergency services, rescue helicopters, lifeboats and even petrol bombs without having to be in mortal danger with the return of the popular Ilfracombe Rescue Day.Those who take advantage of a special July offer before the August event can get a discounted family ticket to see the popular charity spectacle hosted at the Pier by Ilfracombe Round Table.It all happens on Wednesday, August 13, as the police, fire service, coastguard, RAF Search and Rescue, West County Ambulance, RNLI and many more carry out live demonstrations that put the audience right next to the action.It is a chance to see exactly what happens when something does go wrong on land or at sea and the superb training and equipment brought to bear by those who put their own lives on the line every day.As well as being the annual Round Table fund raiser for local good causes, Rescue Day combines family fun with a few handy educational tips - and just what you should not do when that chip pan catches fire!Additional displays this year include the breathtaking spectacle of the police riot squad taking part in petrol bomb practice, plus demonstrations by drugs and firearms dogs, falconer Jonathan Marshall, Exmoor Search and Rescue, the Red Cross and the new Ilfracombe Gig Club.Gates open at 10am and the event runs until 4pm.
