The MP for Torridge and West Devon says he is doing what he can to help find a future for Appledore Shipyard.

Geoffrey Cox is scheduled to examine the future of the shipyard with the Secretary of State for Defence, Gavin Williamson, tomorrow (Tuesday).

Mr Cox has held a series of discussions with Mr Williamson and Ministry of Defence officials, and will hold a further meeting on how the Government can encourage other companies to take over operations at Appledore Shipyard.

Mr Cox will also have discussions with the Secretary of State for Business, Greg Clark, to take stock of the provisions that his department can put in place to assist the workforce at Appledore.

Earlier this month operators Babcock Marine announced the yard would close in March next year, putting some 200 jobs at risk.
